ciao sunshines,
Today, I wanted to write about the tips and tricks that I have learned when it comes to packing in a backpack. Traveling around Europe, a roller carry on does not make as much sense as you might think. Yes, for the airport it is lovely, but when you are lugging it around the cobblestone streets, it gets a little annoying.
So, how do you possibly fit all of the cute outfits you have mind mapped into your little bag that is supposed to fit under the seat? Well, I am obviously still learning, but I thought I would share some of my packing secrets from a chronic over packer.
For starters, buy a travel backpack, they fit more. I love mine from Calpack because it has so many little compartments that are perfect for organizing all my items neatly.
Next, invest in packing cubes. Yes, I am being serious, they help you fit more clothing.
Now, plan out your outfits, make sure they are versatile. If there is one thing that I have learned so far, it is that whatever you have packed and are set on wearing, is likely going to completely change. So, that is why I recommend always packing two pairs of jeans, one black pair and one blue pair, that can be interchangeable with any of the tops you are bringing. For shoes, only bring one pair for going out and one pair for walking around during the day that go with all of your looks. I usually opt for a pair of Adidas Sambas or Gazelles.
If you are planning on bringing sweaters, put them in the packing cubes, but wear your chunkiest sweater on the plane, to save room. If you are packing boots, think about how badly you really want them, because odds are you will be wearing those in the airport too.
Then, make sure you are bringing a small container for your toiletries, and BRING a baby shampoo and conditioner, because a lot of times places you are staying may not have any (if you are in an airbnb, etc.)
The most important part, bring an AirTag and hook it onto your backpack, because it is a pretty high likelihood that one day you are going to have an issue, and they will make you gate check your stuffed backpack, so naturally you want to know where all your belongings are throughout the entire process.
Remember, what you are packing you are likely going to be lugging around for a little bit at least before or after your flight, so while you are incredibly proud of yourself for getting the bag shut, remember how heavy it will be to haul around! I am a culprit of turtling over with my backpack on, and let me tell you, it is not fun!
Happy packing, and as always, have a great rest of your day!
xx,
sunshine
